One of our outreach initiatives for 2025 is hosting quarterly educational opportunities that are accessible both in-person and virtually. Below is the latest offering and keep your eyes on the lookout for our next event in late August, “Understanding Addiction.”

Meet our Panelists

Katherine Allen
Experienced personal loss of Mother
Katherine Allen is native Houstonian, currently living in Dallas. After losing her mother suddenly in March 2019, she learned to navigate young motherhood while managing and living in deep grief during the pandemic.

Jennifer Boubel
Executive Director, Bo’s Place Houston
“Grief is something that we all will experience at some point in our lifetime. The community that is formed at Bo’s Place brings people together in ways that often seem impossible. We need each other, in grief and beyond. Each one of us has a voice. And each of our voices can make an enormous difference in one person’s life and our community.” -Jennifer

Lizzy Bowen, MS, LCSW
Lead Clinician, Nick Finnegan Counseling Center
Personally experienced loss of parents and close friend to suicide
Lizzy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in social work from The University of Houston. Lizzy has worked as both a therapist and social worker in a variety of settings, including working with immigrant women fleeing violence and facilitating an ADHD skills group for children. Currently, Lizzy serves as NFCC’s Lead Clinician, where she provides additional support for our counseling team.

Elizabeth Plummer, LCSW
Clinical Director Rice University Wellbeing and Counseling Center
Personally faced the loss of a child
Elizabeth Plummer, LCSW is a Clinical Social Worker and the Clinical Director of the Rice Counseling Center. She is a graduate Southwestern University with a BA in Psychology and Smith College with an MSW in Social Work. Elizabeth is also a Board Certified Diplomat of Social Work. Elizabeth has been involved in various research projects studying topics that include confronting sexism and treating suicide. Recently she was a research therapist for the DSM V field trials. Elizabeth has also been involved in fighting the stigma of mental illness by authoring posts for mental health and parenting blogs. In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys cooking, spending time with her family, and volunteering.
