McKenzie & Patrick Atwood
How did you get involved with NFCC?
Several years ago, McKenzie and I were asked by our life-long friends, Jay and Margaret Magness, to serve with them on the host committee for the Crawfish Boil, which we had attended in the past. I (Patrick) ended up joining the board the following year and gaining a better appreciation for the important work that NFCC does in our community, as well as some ways that I could continue to help out.
As Vice Chair of the Advisory Board (Patrick), what has surprised you most about working with NFCC?
How professionally the organization is run. I don’t know that I had any expectations going into my role as Vice Chair but, if I did, what I have seen since becoming more involved has surpassed them. Mary Elizabeth and the team have that place running like a Swiss watch and, frankly, it’s impressive. In my experience, organizations do not function that well unless the people working at them care about their work. So, it’s clear to me that the NFCC team cares.
As former chairs of our Crawfish Boil and supporters of this year’s Gala, tell us more about why you keep attending NFCC events.
Great people, great food, and a great cause!
Why do you choose to support mental healthcare over other charities / needs out there?
When I was involved with another non-profit organization a few years ago, I saw research about the long-term economic impact for a broad range of non-profit sectors. Counseling and mental healthcare for all people, but particularly younger folks, was toward the top of the list. I believe the return on both time and money invested into this cause is substantial, so I’m happy to support it however I can.
Of course, it’s also about all the people involved with NFCC. It’s a wonderful community.
