David Lara, MA, LPC Associate*, joined NFCC in spring of 2016 as the administrative assistant while studying for his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Philosophy. He then acquired his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at The University of St. Thomas. David’s previous experience includes working with children from ages 9 to adolescents and adults at private practice and non-profit settings.  As a result he has had the privilege of working with a variety of concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma and adjusting to new circumstances. David believes that working as a team to approach challenges is important in therapy and strives to make sure the client feels safe and comfortable to express themselves. He utilizes several modalities, such as narrative, play and person-centered therapy, and tailors these approaches based on the client’s needs. When he is not seeing clients, he continues his role as an administrative assistant to assist clients in scheduling appointments and helping many new clients take their first step on their mental health journey.
