Joy Chen is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate*. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in English, and subsequently taught English Language Arts at the secondary grade level in Fort Bend ISD for seven years. Joy obtained her master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary. Joy has worked in community mental health centers treating depression, anxiety, trauma, loss and grief, and adjustment issues. She holds special interest in working with young adults experiencing intergenerational conflict and racial trauma. Joy works with individuals ages 6 and older, including adolescents and adults. She draws from a variety of therapeutic approaches and theories, including psychodynamic, person-centered, family systems, and attachment. She believes in a collaborative approach working with her client to ensure that counseling is effective and valuable. Joy is currently training in Theraplay and EMDR.
